Illegal Buildings Under Ex-Tugu 66 Bridge Torn Down

Setiabudi Sub-district Head, Iswahyudi led the demolishment of illegal buildings under the ex-Tugu 66 Bridge, Jalan HR Rasuna Said, South Jakarta.

It aims to maintain the aesthetics of the city

According to him, the semi-permanent illegal buildings were being torn down, as they were occupying an area that was not intended for them.

"It aims to maintain the aesthetics of the city," he expressed, Thursday (11/21).

He explained the demolishment involved 100 joint personnel of PPSU, SDA Sub-agency, Bina Marga Sub-agency, Parks and City Forest Sub-agency, Environment Sub-agency, and Satpol PP.

"We then conducted a data collection and found out that there were seven residents of the illegal building who were not Jakarta residents or did not have Jakarta ID cards," he explained.

According to him, the former occupants would be returned to their hometowns through the related agency. "We do this persuasively and humanistically," he uttered.

He added the site was planned to be transformed into a fence in order to prevent the same case.

"Soon or later, we will beautify the place with murals and flowers for a nice view," he said.
